Mission Strategy
THE PRIMARY PURPOSE
‘helping people find and follow Jesus’
with a primary responsibility for the people of Hamilton City.
The identity, life and ministry of Discovery Christian Centre is determined by the mission of Christ:
- For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. Luke 19:10
- Come, follow me, and I will make you fish for people. Mark 1:17
- As the Father has sent me, I am sending you. John 20:21
STRATEGIES TO FULFILL THE PRIMARY PURPOSE
To provide for the diversity of today’s people Discovery Christian Centre embraces several Faith Communities. Each community seeks to help others find and follow Jesus Christ: worshipping God, growing friendships, exploring faith and serving the Lord.
Each Faith Community, reflecting its own identity, life and ministry aims:
1. TO ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO ENGAGE IN EVANGELISM.
- By equipping individual members to cultivate relationships with people outside of Christian faith and fellowship and to share Jesus Christ with them in word and deed. (Line fishing)
- By creating corporate strategies to lift the visibility of the Faith Communities, and to reach beyond Christians’ relational networks to help others find and follow Jesus. (Net fishing)
- By conducting ongoing ‘market’ research to be aware of, and responsive and relevant to, contemporary New Zealanders and their needs.
2. TO ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO LIVE IN FELLOWSHIP.
- By nurturing a relational environment marked by acceptance, safety, respect and freedom.
- By facilitating the welcome and incorporation of new people, providing multiple entry points and pathways into relationships and ministry involvement.
- By building Faith Communities characterized by faith and enthusiasm, and that model the gospel and counter-culture of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.
3. TO ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO GROW IN DISCIPLESHIP.
- By facilitating involvement in small groups where real life is shared, Biblical truth is explored, Spirit transformation is encouraged, and mutual caring and accountability is grown.
- By providing special body-wide opportunities to address particular needs in discipleship.
4. TO ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO SERVE IN MINISTRY.
- By empowering everyone to serve (individually and in body ministries) according to their gifts, passion, personality and circumstances.
- By nurturing an environment of evaluation and excellence, and of creativity and change.
- By identifying and mentoring new leaders, and building effective team ministries.
5. TO ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO PARTICIPATE IN WORSHIP.
- By helping individuals to grow in their personal life of prayer and devotion.
- By offering corporate worship experiences that express and grow communion with God, that offer relevant Biblical teaching, and that strengthen a relational Faith Community.
DISCOVERY PROVIDES AND MANAGES RESOURCES FOR THESE STRATEGIES.
- By using structures that facilitate leadership and ownership, participation and co-operation.
- By overseeing and developing finances, buildings and equipment.
